Class Requirements: Contemporary Literature

GENERAL RULES:

· All school-wide rules apply in this classroom (no cell phones/electronics, attendance, etc.)

· Students must arrive on time for class, or bring a pass explaining their lateness. All tardy students will be sent downstairs to get a pass.

· Students must bring a notebook, pen, and their book to class EVERY DAY.

· STUDENTS MUST TREAT ONE ANOTHER AND THEIR TEACHER WITH RESPECT.

EXAMS AND QUIZZES:

· Each novel studied will culminate in a take-home essay exam.

· If student is absent on the day an exam is due, he or she should expect to turn in the paper on the day he or she returns to class. *Please note: IF THE ABSENCE IS UNEXCUSED THE STUDENT RECEIVES A ZERO ON THE TEST.

· Cheating will not be tolerated. If cheating is evident, the student will receive a zero for the given test or quiz--NO EXCEPTIONS.

· All exams are "take-home" for this class--and all-essay in format. Students will be given ample time and preparation to complete each exam.

HOMEWORK/CLASSWORK:

· This is an elective literature course. There is a great deal of reading and students are expected to keep up and take personal responsibility for meeting reading deadlines, purchasing books, and completing exams.

· Free-writing assignments and discussion are the focus of day-to-day class, following the structure of college literature classes. Consequently, participation and classwork are graded every day, and constitute fully half of the student's final grade each marking period.
