-- Spring 2004
to the Yearbook Staff! Congratulations on being part of a great team!
This is a privilege unlike any other activity at South, and there is
nothing more rewarding than seeing your work published and receiving
compliments from all of your friends, classmates, and teachers. I am
excited about this year and eager to work with all of you on this
project this year. We are going to have a successful year and hopefully
have some fun in the process.
Yearbook is unlike any other class you are taking! It is a class, an extracurricular activity, and a business. We have the awesome privilege and responsibility of preserving the memories of this year for every student at South High School. In order for us to have a successful year, you must realize that yearbook is a big commitment! You will be expected to put in time outside of school, including taking photographs, coming in after school and on weekends when necessary, and work as part of a team in putting together the book. Understand that you will need to budget you time to include yearbook in your schedule. There are no excuses for missed deadlines, and things usually take longer than you think they will, so plan accordingly!
Yearbook is a privilege, and you are representing South High School and the entire yearbook staff. You are expected to behave appropriately both on and off campus regardless of if you are performing duties for yearbook.
In yearbook you will be working as part of a team. You will be working with a variety of people throughout the semester, and you will need to help each other, especially as we approach deadlines. During the first few weeks we will establish roles for the year, so you will need to begin thinking about what you would like to do, realizing that you will be helping with all aspects of the book throughout the year.
Your grade will be based on the following:
25% Attendance, participation, and attitude
This includes both in class and outside of class commitments.
75% Meeting deadlines
This includes both your own deadlines and the class deadlines.
Group grades will be given for meeting deadlines to help ensure accountability and teamwork. Due to the nature of group work, you may receive a higher or lower grade than you could earn individually. If deadlines are not met consistently, there will be consequences and you will be asked to drop the class for second semester.
I am looking forward to this year and our work together. If you have any questions or need help with anything, please donít hesitate to ask. I am available to you.
